"MALL COPZ"

Motivation

"Mall Copz", formally known as "Rezpect My Authority", started as a group project during my first academic year at the University of Westminster. The project was initially developed using the MonoGame framework but has since been ported into Unity. Now, "Mall Copz" is a personal project that I find myself coming back to a few times a year as a fun side project, also giving me the opportunity to improve, iterate, and optimize older code.

Key Features & Implementations

  • TDS-style game controls

  • Zombie AI using A* libraries

  • Cash/loot systems

  • Large range of projectile weapons

  • Fun blood spatter effects

  • Vehicle controller with collision systems

  • Simple day/night cycle

Learning Outcomes

  • Thorough dive into Unity 2D using sprites

  • Pixel art asset creation using Adobe Animate

  • New & consistent C# programming knowledge

  • Unity lighting systems

  • Unity particle system knowledge

  • Character AI & Finite State Machines

Project Summary

"Mall Copz" is a top-down-shooter, zombie survival game where you play as an undertrained but overzealous mall cop. The zombie apocalypse has hit and it's time for Richard D. Pillick to make a name for himself fighting the undead!

While the game is more of a project of passion and experimentation, given time, I plan to implement a full and thorough story along with several levels poking fun at the stereotypical traits of a mall cop, caught in the zombie apocalypse and fighting to survive.

I also created a short intro animation using Adobe Animate as part of my submission during the original project life-cycle at uni, check it out below!
